After creating a nuisance in the country’s best training academy in South West Delhi, the ‘highly disobedient’ newly recruited Goa police constables are falling in place. The trainees had alleged sub-standard food and unhygienic living conditions to cover up for being unable to adjust to tough physical exercises and punctuality.
A backlash back in their home State with no support from any political party too, the trainees are trying to adjust to the strict code of conduct and behaviour.
“Recruits are subjected to a rigorous schedule that demands strict adherence to timelines and deadlines. They are expected to be punctual and arrive on time for classes, drills, and other activities. They also need to show respect towards their superiors and colleagues, and follow instructions without question,” a senior officer attached to the academy told The Goan.
The syllabus also lays emphasis on discipline and obedience to inculcate a sense of responsibility and accountability. “These recruits will come out as professionals after undergoing the training, which is otherwise imparted to upper ranks from sub-inspectors to IPS. Adhering to time, discipline and obedience is the basic requirement to become successful police officers,” he added.
Several of 500 recruits created a ruckus in the academy last week over the availability of only protein diet vegetarian food. As a mark of protest, they dumped the food even as the academy did not register complaints from any other trainees hailing from different States and union territories.
The constable recruits also reported late for morning exercises despite warnings. “The reporting time is at 6:30 am but they are not punctual. On being warned, they protested,” said one of the officers.
Director General of Police Jaspal Singh stated that change of climate or food led to issues, which have been sorted. The Goan recruits are allowed boiled eggs every morning and non-veg food twice a week.
The department also released pictures of the barrack, mess and class rooms among other training locations within the campus, dismissing allegations of unhygienic living conditions.
Around 900 candidates cleared the recently held recruitment drive for constables of whom 400 are undergoing training at Police Training School, Valpoi.
