Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Saturday claimed that the controversial Mini India Park Project was a great non-polluting project which could benefit locals of Quelossim and also resolve the issue of unemployment.

Speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan walkathon” in Chicalim on Saturday, Godinho also advised elected MLAs not to take up

activism to stop a great project and misguide villagers in

the bargain.

“As per my knowledge, there were initial objections raised because of some construction activity proposed to be taken up at the Mini

India Park Project site in Quelossim.”

“There was a proposal for a seven-starred resort in the project. I was not opposed to it because it would have been beneficial to residents and it would given a boost not only to Quelossim and Cortalim, but would have also solved the unemployment of entire Mormugao taluka.”

“But now, files placed before the government have revealed that the project proponents have said they are not going to come with any construction and plans for a seven-starred resort have been scrapped,” said Godinho.

Godinho informed that the plan is to get only floating iconic monuments of all states across the country which will be showcased and it

would not cause any problem to anyone.

“The Captain of Ports has given the project proponents necessary permission. People are misguided with too much activism and when we elected members and MLAs take to activism, it will prove negative for Goa,” said Godinho, indirectly referring to opposition to the project by Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha.

“On the one side, we lament that Goans are going abroad and other states for employment and on the other side when a beautiful project is being planned which will not pollute environment or create any negative impact on surrounding areas, we want to stop it. How will unemployment be resolved and how will the exodus be stopped?”

Godinho said it was high time for people to think positively and to allow good projects to come up.

“Only then will Goa prosper and unemployment be resolved,” he added.

Godinho said the walkathon was organised as part of the Swachha Bharat Abhiyan initiative of PM Narendra Modi.

Godinho said NCPOR would take up the task of cleaning and spread awareness

on keeping the surroundings clean.
