Godinho-backed panel sweeps Chicalim, Bogmalo panchayats

The elections to the posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch were held across nine panchayats in Mormugao taluka on Monday.

While Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho-backed panel of candidates were elected to the top two posts in Chicalim and Bogmalo in the Dabolim constituency, the Goencho Ekvott group managed to win Velsao by a slender margin of 4-3.

Former sarpanch Girish Pillai retained control of the 11-member Sancoale panchayat.

In Bogmalo, both sarpanch Sankalp Mahale and deputy sarpanch Lorena Da Cunha were elected unopposed.

Godinho’s panel also took charge of the 11-member Chicalim panchayat where Kamla Prasad Yadav was elected as sarpanch and Aishwarya Korgaonkar as deputy sarpanch.

In Sancoale, Rohini Toraskar was elected sarpanch while Girish Pillai was elected deputy sarpanch.

Quelosssim saw the victory of the panel against the controversial Mini India Park project as Francisco Figueredo was elected sarpanch and Swoosie Mazel De Souza elected deputy sarpanch.

The double-tracking issue took centre stage in Velsao where Goencho Ekvott managed to form the panel with a slender margin of 4-3, with Maria Gouveia getting elected as sarpanch and Kishan Sankolkar as deputy sarpanch.

In Cortalim, giant killer Senia Pereira was elected sarpanch and a fresh face, Divya Raikar, was elected deputy sarpanch.

In Cansaulim, Xavier Pereira was elected sarpanch and Arlinda Almeida was elected as deputy.

MAPUSAThe Mapusa Urban Cooperative Bank (MUCB) which is under liquidation hopes to raise funds by selling some assets over the next couple of months.The bank has decided to auction a total of 56 shops “ 30 shops grouped in 12 lots and 26 individual shops “ at the Esar Trade Centre in Mapusa.“We are selling the properties belonging to the bank in order to recover money.
