The controversial double-tracking works continued to meet with public resistance, when Goencho Ekvott along with villagers and landlords stopped the work at Hollant in Velsao-Pale-Issorcim on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking to reporters, Orville Dourado Rodrigues, founder of Goencho Ekvott, said personnel from Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) were present with an armed Railway Protection Force.

"Villagers, landlords and we warned RVNL officials not to trespass in private properties as it would lead to a law and order situation.”

“Goencho Ekvott also advised the RVNL not to commence any double-tracking works without the authorisation of local panchayats along the route since no Environment Impact Assessment and Social Impact Assessment were carried out," said Rodrigues.

"The RNVL personnel patiently listened to the points raised by Goencho Ekvott regarding the land rights and agreed to forward any communications received from their higher ups to GE and the team. They later dispersed from the site,” said Rodrigues.
