Goans travelling by train to Gokak – known for its scenic waterfalls and the famous Gokak Kardant – can now expect a warmer welcome, as work on upgrading the Gokak Road Railway Station is moving ahead quickly under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). This scheme is focused on improving passenger facilities and modernising railway stations across the country.

The redevelopment has a sanctioned cost of `16.98 crore, with proposed works totalling `28.21 crore. The project has already reached 100% physical progress and 86.54% financial progress, showing that it is close to being completed.

A major part of the upgrade is a new two-storey station building (G+1) covering 546 sqm. It is designed to make operations smoother and offer better facilities for passengers. The surrounding area of 3463 sqm has also been fully developed, with proper arrangements for parking, vehicle movement, and drop-off and pick-up zones. Other improvements include passenger lifts, a new 78 sqm waiting hall, 41 sqm of renovated toilets, and new furniture.

The station has also added modern signage, façade lighting, Coach Display Boards (CDB), Station Layout Display Boards (SLDB), Master Layout Display Boards (MLDB), public announcement systems, and clocks – all aimed at improving the passenger experience.
