OLD GOA
The Goltim comunidade, in Divar, held its extra ordinary general body meeting, on Sunday, to chalk out the way forward for the comunidade which is struggling due to lack of funds.
At the meeting, apart from various other decisions adopted, a legal team was also formed to identify and protect the land owned by the comunidade.
It was also decided to keep a check on encroachments on comunidade land, starting with the property that the comunidade house is located.
“We have come to know that the entire area is over 1,000 square metres. But in reality there is hardly 500 metres. So, we are going to go for demarcation of the property to find out how much land has been encroached upon,” informed gaunkar Luis de Souza who was one of the facilitators of the meeting along with gaunkar Norbert Pereira.
Later, speaking to The Goan de Souza informed that they are now going to meet on a regular basis and ensure that the gaunkars take interest in running the affairs of the comunidade.
Comunidade president Agapito Menezes informed that the meeting was organized to bring all the gaunkars together.
“We didn’t hold a meeting of the gaunkars since a long time. So, today, we decided to bring all the gaunkars together particularly those who are residing in other places,” Menezes informed.
On the difficulties faced in running the affairs, Menezes informed that encroachment on comunidade land is one big issue.
“And when such things happen, the higher authorities mostly decide the issue without the knowledge of the comunidade,” Menezes stated while adding that there is no source of income for the comunidade which compounds the problem.
“There is absolutely no source of income for the Goltim comunidade as we do not have any land where we can undertake any commercial activity,” he added.
Treasurer Vincent Cabral, attorney Prakash Pereira also spoke at the meeting. A song titled ‘Goltemchea mhojea ganvkaramno…’ was also presented on the occasion to give a boost to the gaunkars.
