MARGAO

With beleaguered depositors running from pillar to post to get their hard earned deposits back, the Registrar of Co-operative Societies Vikas Gaunekar has issued an order, appointing three Administrators to handle the affairs of the Visionaries Urban Co-operative Credit Society Ltd which has offices at Loutolim, Majorda, Colva and Ramnagri in Salcete Taluka.

The decision was taken by the Minister for Cooperation and Consumer Affairs, Govind Gaude to address the issues affecting the Visionaries Urban Cooperative Credit Society after depositors made a strong case before the government for the return of the deposits.

For some time, the depositors had been having meetings at Majorda and other villages on how to go about getting their deposits back from the Society.

Meanwhile, the Goa Womens Forum (GWF) has welcomed the decision of the Minister for Cooperation and Consumer Affairs Govind Gaude to appoint administrators to address the affairs of the Visionaries Urban Co-operative Credit Society Ltd. and has looked forward to the early return of the hard earned money of the depositors.

The GWF had submitted a letter to Gaude recently highlighting the need to focus on women for redressal of consumer complaints and financial literacy awareness programmes and sought his intervention in the matter of the Visionaries Urban Co-operative Credit Society Ltd.

GWF had highlighted to the Minister the need for a District level officer under Registrar of Coop. Societies to deal with consumer complaints in North & South Goa on a fortnightly basis on a fixed day, time and venue.

GWF had also focused on the need for district and taluka level financial literacy awareness programmes for women to take preventive action so that they do not get cheated by false offers and get misguided by elements who wish to take advantage of their hard-earned money.

GWF convenor Lorna Fernandes had emphasized that such proactive steps would definitely get the support of the elected women representatives in panchayats and municipal councils, self help groups, mahila mandals and consumer forums.
