Pandurang Nadkarni, educationist and ex-chairman of Goa Board on Friday said that the Government can take a call to check if 10th std students can go to school in order to resolve any difficulties.

Nadkarni was speaking to reporters after a Teacher's Day function organised by Keshav Smriti School where Anil Raghuvir Chodankar a journalist and a  retired Headmaster of Government High School, Mangor Hill, Vasco was felicitated for his outstanding contribution in the field of education in the presence of Principal and staff of Keshav Smriti School.

Dr Sitaram  Korgaonkar , President of Vidya Bharti Goa was the chief guest while Pandurang Nadkarni was the guest of honour for the function .

Nadkarni speaking to media said that Government of India should give guidelines and the decision to start schools can be taken by the state Government.

" Most important is we have never taught the children how to study. Students should stress more on reading ,writing and reference work in today's times because they are at home and parents should observe if the students are writing regularly because if they stop writing for six months, they will forget the habit of writing once things get back to normal," said Nadkarni.

"Small children can spoil their eyes studying online using mobiles and neigbouring states have already put a stop on studying using mobile for students till eighth standard and we can only give them guidelines and  guidance on the mobile once a week. The government  can try and give permission to start classes for students from 9th to 12th to a certain extent using social distancing for around three months so that students can approach teachers for any difficulties but this is to be done only after the Government assesses the situation of Covid in the area surrounding the schools. In rural areas where there is no widespread of Covid cases and there are only around 15 to 20 students in schools, this can be allowed in consultation with parents, " said Nadkarni.

Assistant Principal of Keshav Smruti school Rajashree Jadhav speaking to media demanded that the Government offer free mobile devices to people who could not afford to buy the device for their children.

"We are in touch with 100 per cent to students of 10th standard and we are receiving good cooperation from parents and some have gone beyond their financial capacity to buy mobiles for their children. There are some poor students who don't have mobiles and while we are calling them to school to help them which can be a risk for them as well.  The Government can identify such people and offer them free devices," said Jadhav.
