The Socorro Panchayat has issued a seven-day eviction notice to a family residing in a house built under the ‘20 Point Programme’ after a 46-year-old man living there was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old child.
According to sources, news that the accused, Allabhaksh Goususab Saiyydabade, had been arrested in connection with the heinous crime spread in the colony, and angry residents demanded that the accused and his family be prevented from staying in the house.
Socorro panchayat members and a police team rushed to the site to pacify the residents. After a discussion on the matter, the Socorro panchayat decided to serve a notice to Allabaksh Saiyadabade, asking him to vacate the house.
But since the house was closed, the panchayat pasted the notice on the house. The notice states: “You are hereby directed to vacate the premises as a precautionary measure to avoid any such untoward incident occurring where you and your family are residing in the premises at the 20 Point Programme at Socorro. You are, therefore, directed to vacate the premises within a period of seven days from the date of receipt of this notice, failing which strict action will be initiated against you and your family.”
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a panch member said the accused was staying in the house on a rental basis.
“On verifying the records, the panchayat found that the house did not belong to him. Since a case of sexual assault of a minor child was registered against him, residents raised strong objections to him staying in the colony. Hence, as a precautionary measure, the panchayat was forced to serve him a notice giving him seven days’ time to shift elsewhere,” said the panch member.
The accused was engaged as a driver to pick up and drop children at school. On Sunday, a six-year-old girl disclosed to her parents about the sexual assault on her by Saiyydabade. The parents filed a complaint with the Porvorim police.
The minor girl was examined at the GMC Hospital at Bambolim, where a medical officer confirmed that there was evidence of sexual assault on the victim.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested the accused, and a Mapusa court remanded him to police custody for four days. Porvorim Lady PSI Prajyoti Dessai is conducting further investigation under the supervision of Police Inspector Rahul Parab.
