In a major organisational reshuffle following the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) disastrous performance in the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections, the party relieved Amit Palekar from the post of president of the AAP Goa state unit with immediate effect.

As per an official communication issued on December 24, Goa State General Secretary (Organisation) Shrikrishna Parab has been given additional charge as State president until further orders.

"The political affairs committee of AAP has decided to relieve from the post of the President of Goa State Unit with immediate effect," reads the order signed by AAP National General Secretary (Organisation) Dr Sandeep Pathak and Goa State Prabhari Atishi.

Though the party has not cited specific reasons for the leadership change, the decision follows AAP’s poor showing in the ZP polls, where the party won only one seat, exposing its weak organisational base and lack of grassroots support in Goa.

The ZP results have triggered an internal review within the party, with the high command reportedly calling for immediate corrective measures ahead of upcoming civic body elections and the 2027 Assembly polls.
