73-year-old rider succumbs to injuries

A two-wheeler rider, Ramchandra Prabhu Salgaonkar (73) of Ansabhat-Mapusa, who was injured after being hit by a car at Hutatma Chowk here, died while undergoing treatment at the GMC hospital at Bambolim in the early hours of Wednesday.

Mapusa police have registered a case against the accused car driver, Devdutt Patil (35), a native of Chandgad but residing at Merces.

This accident took place on December 5 at around 9.45 am when Prabhu Salgaonkar was going from his house to his shop in the Mapusa market on a two-wheeler. Patil was driving a car from Hutatma Chowk towards Altinho-Mapusa, when his car struck the two-wheeler.

Prabhu Salgaonkar was seriously injured and was moved to the Mapusa District Hospital, from where he was referred to the GMC hospital. He was undergoing treatment for the last 19 days when he succumbed early Wednesday morning.

Further investigation is being conducted by Mapusa PSI Ravina Mawtodkar.
