PANAJI: Drishti Marine lifesavers were kept on high alert across Goa’s beaches on Christmas Day, tracing six missing children and rescuing six persons from drowning amid heavy holiday crowds.
According to Drishti Marine, the incidents were reported from multiple beaches across North and South Goa. Lifesavers also attended to two cases of jellyfish stings and provided medical assistance to a Russian tourist who was injured after slipping on a rocky beach stretch.
At Arambol beach, a 33-year-old woman from Cunchelim, Mapusa, was rescued after encountering difficulty in the sweetwater lake. In another incident at the same beach, a seven-year-old girl found alone was traced and reunited with her family following coordination between tower staff and vehicle patrol teams.
Two 23-year-old men from Hyderabad were rescued from the water at Mandrem beach after being pulled into deeper waters. Both were brought safely to shore by lifesavers using rescue equipment with the assistance of jet skis. At Morjim beach, a man and woman from Mumbai were similarly rescued after struggling in the sea.
At Baga beach, three children who went missing at different times during the day were safely traced at various stretches of the crowded shoreline and reunited with their families after due verification. A three-year-old boy from Kolhapur was also traced at Calangute beach after being found alone near the main entrance.
At Candolim beach, a seven-year-old boy from Punjab was rescued after facing difficulty while swimming, while a three-year-old girl from Mumbai who had wandered away was later located and handed over to her family.
Lifesavers also handled medical emergencies during the day. A 20-year-old tourist from Jammu and Kashmir and a 10-year-old boy from Pune were treated for jellyfish stings at Baina and Benaulim beaches, respectively, and released after first aid. At Palolem beach, a 42-year-old Russian tourist who slipped on rocks sustained deep cuts on both legs and was given immediate first aid before being advised further medical treatment.
