Govt cannot stop sale of Zuari land as per legal advice, says Babush

PANAJI
The legal opinion on land sale by Zuari Agro Chemicals at Zuarinagar is in, said Revenue Minister Atanasio alias Babush Monserrate.

According to legal advice, the State government cannot interfere in the land sale by Zuari Agro Chemicals to a third party, disclosed Monserrate.

“A senior lawyer well versed with Comunidade Code was consulted in the matter and he has advised the government that Zuari Agro Chemicals has legal ownership right of the concerned land and they are within their right to sell it to other parties,” Babush told the media.

The Revenue Minister stated that the legal opinion will be tabled in the next assembly session for discussion.

While reiterating that Zuari Agro has deviated from the agreement under which the land was handed over to them, he said instructions have already been issued to the district collector not to give any sanads to the sale of plots in that particular land.

Earlier in July, Independent MLA Antonio Vas moved a private member’s resolution asking the government to take over the excess and unutilised Zuari land of around 17 lakh sqmts.
