An awareness camp on various government schemes was held in Bogmalo Panchayat on Saturday morning.
The awareness camp was organised by the Chicolna Bogmalo Panchayat in association with the directorate of social welfare, Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary service, Directorate of Women and Child welfare, Government ITI Bogda and the Assistant Commandant, Coast Guard.
A large number of villagers were present on the occasion along with the Sarpanch and Panch members of the Bogmalo panchayat, representatives of various government departments and the officials of the coast guard.
Speaking to the media, Bogmalo Sarpanch Lorena Fernandes said the awareness programme was conducted through the Swayampurna Goa initiative
" The programme was to benefit a large number of villagers, immaterial if they are employed or unemployed. We wanted to ensure that all the villagers are aware of the various schemes of the Government so that they can take the benfit of the schemes. While we had around 4 Government departments that explained in details the schemes that were present in their departments, the Coast Guard gave awareness to fishermen on safety measures. We also had an ITI which explained the benefits to students and we want the people to avail the benefits of the schemes and we will help them with this so that the village can become self-reliant," said Fernandes.
An officer of the Coast Guard said that Coast Guard Day was celebrated every year with a cleanliness drive.
"This year amidst the pandemic we requested the Bogmalo Panchayat if we could interact with them so that the fishermen could also benefit from the awareness camp. We have requested the panchayat to further pass the information to other fishermen and the villagers of Bogmalo, " said the official.
