VRS scheme for Group C staffers

The State government has notified the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for the permanent government employees of Group C who have crossed 45 years of age or completed 20 years of regular service.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Finance Department on February 13. The cabinet had cleared the proposal in November, last year.

As per the cabinet note, the posts vacated by those taking the VRS shall stand abolished.

“A permanent Government employee who has attained the age of 45 years or who has completed 20 years of regular service may seek voluntary retirement by a written request to the Appointing Authority,” Under Secretary Finance Pranab Bhat said in the notification.

At present, the government employees covered under the CCS Pension Rules are permitted to retire voluntarily after completing 15 years of service. Employees retiring on such a scheme are given proportionate gratuity and pension.

Also, the employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS) can retire voluntarily after completing 20 years of service. They are entitled to retirement gratuity and other benefits as governed by the NPS rules.

The new VRS rules stipulate that employees under the Old Pension Scheme will get all the retirement benefits and full pensionary benefits as on the day of retirement and those under the New Pension Scheme will get their share as well as the government’s share of contributions and other benefits.
