The State government has extended the services of retired resourceful teachers under the ongoing Scheme for Engaging Services of Retired Resourceful Teachers.
Introduced in 2020, the original scheme allowed retired teachers to work for up to three years from their retirement date or until the completion of an approved project, whichever came first. The amended notified scheme now extends this tenure to five years or until the project's completion, whichever is earlier.
As per the notification, the Scheme is limited to government departments, government autonomous bodies, government societies, government corporations, other government institutions and public sector undertakings. “Government should constitute a Selection Committee under the Chairmanship of Director of Higher Education with experts from Administration and Academics as Members. The Department/ Institution (availing the services of retired teachers) shall furnish half yearly reports of the progress and implementation of the Project to the Directorate of Higher Education to be placed before the Government/Selection Committee if the need be,” it added.
Monthly remuneration remains unchanged wherein senior professors receive Rs 1.40 lakh, professors Rs 1.30 lakh, associate professors Rs 1.20 lakh, and assistant professors Rs 80,000. The notification states that those retired teachers who have availed accommodation by the government, semi-government, or autonomous bodies, can retain it with a 10 percent deduction from their remuneration.
Only those teachers having a PhD, a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience at an undergraduate or postgraduate level and residents of Goa for at least 15 years are eligible. However, teachers of Goan origin who have served at least five years in Goa during their careers and reside in Goa are also eligible.
The DHE stated that the scheme aims to utilize the retired teachers' expertise to support educational, cultural, scientific, social, and developmental projects aligned with the state’s interests and needs; and to boost the efforts of the State in promoting quality education, research and innovation.
