In an effort to improve the quality of education and enrolment rate, the State government has sought public sector participation to empower school education right from primary to higher secondary level.
The Directorate of Education has formulated a scheme ‘Vidhya Sahayya’ to encourage communities to render their voluntary services towards boosting quality of education and for effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).
“The scheme aims at utilizing voluntary services rendered by the community for increasing education rate, quality of education and implementing vocational education thereby enhancing the employment and self employment rate,” the notification stated.
The scheme, divided into two components -- assistance through general level activities and sponsorship services -- also aims at strengthening the infrastructure by providing support to schools.
The department said that there are many individual volunteers, local artisans/entrepreneurs in the community/surrounding of the schools that are willing to and can share their knowledge and skills with students, which will guide the students about their career options.
“Also there are many private sector/ public sector industries willing to contribute towards enhancement of quality of education by utilizing their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds in the education sector,” the department said.
The scope of the scheme includes training for students, counseling for school children and parents, providing career counselling, education support for various entrance exams and competition preparation and providing nutritional support apart from sponsoring in terms of manpower such as mentors, teachers, resource persons, special educators, therapists & rehabilitation specialists and others.
