Administrator of the Sanjivani sugar factory Rajesh Prabhudesai has on Thursday said that the government is seriously considering introducing a scheme which will benefit the sugarcane farmers in the state.
He said the Sanjivani sugar factory administration has submitted a scheme for the consideration of the government to provide relief to the farmers who cannot afford to harvest the sugarcane and transport the same to the sugarcane factories.
Prabhudesai told the media that the government has been offering financial assistance to the sugarcane farmers over the last couple of years under the subsidy scheme to provide assistance to the sugarcane growers.
He said the government has already issued a notification for the financial year 2025-26 mandating the farmers to cut the sugarcane and transport the same to the factories, promising a payment of Rs 3,290 per ton.
Admitting that the notification has not gone down well with the sugarcane farmers, Prabhudesai said the administration has suggested a new scheme to tide over the situation and provide relief to the farmers.
“If the new scheme is notified, than the farmers will benefit if they transport the sugarcane to the sugar producing units in Maharashtra and Karnataka. We are waiting for the government to notify the new scheme”, he added.
