Police seized 5.4 kgs of ganja worth Rs 5.5 lakh near the Central Jail at Colvale on Thursday and arrested a youth from Rajasthan in this connection.
The police carried out a raid between 11.40 pm and 2 pm, after receiving information that a drug sale was expected to take place on the national highway near Colvale Jail.
As soon as the accused, Govind Rameshwar Kumar Rangi (19) of Bilaspur-Rajasthan got down from a passenger bus at the scene, police took him into custody.
During a search, 5.4 kgs of ganja valued at Rs 5.5 lakh was found in his possession. Police seized the ganja and later arrested the accused in this connection. Further investigation is being conducted by the police under the guidance of Police Inspector Sanjit Kandolkar and supervision of DySP Wilson D’Souza and North Goa SP Harishchandra Madkaikar.
