While former GKA president Madhav Borkar accused the DOL of failing to release funds for programmes in 2015 and 2016, the DOL has hit back and claimed that the money was returned to the government after the GKA had not utilised the funds.
Borkar accused the DOL for not sanctioning funds and as a result, programs, drama festival and the awards could not be presented for two years.
"The DOL is responsible for this mess. Government funds are utilized for GKA staff salaries and office expenses, but since there was no money to organise GKA programmes, I resigned as GKA president."
"During my tenure, the department was very particular about the GKA's audit and funds of ` 1.5 crore were released only after my resignation. Where did this money come from," asked Borkar.
On the other hand, sources from the DOL claimed that the GKA had not audited its accounts for the past few years
"Besides, the funds were not utilized properly. The department did not block the funds during the last two years. The money which was not utilized by the GKA was returned to the government," said the source.
