PANAJI
The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation has invited quotations from artists experienced in undertaking China mosaic tile work for the installation of a colourful mosaic tile artwork depicting the freedom struggle at the Azad Maidan square in the heart of Panaji. The square is presently being renovated and upgraded.
GSIDC’s selection committee will scrutinize all entries. The best entry will be declared as the winner and the artist will be awarded the contract for the artwork.
Along with the financial proposal, artists have been called upon to submit 3-dimensional China mosaic tile artwork of 2 ft by 2 ft depicting the freedom struggle, which is the theme for the competition.
Each artwork will have approximately 50 shades comprising 6 mm ceramic tiles, which will be custom made from established tile manufacturing firms. Artists have been asked to incorporate shades of brown, green, blue, white to grey and red in their sample pieces.
The design will be submitted on paper in actual size that is to be installed at the Azad Maidan. It is also expected to be coloured in the exact style in which mosaics will finally be done.
Upon being awarded the work, the artist will have one month to execute the work along the bridge walls. GSIDC has also insisted on a defect liability period of three years for the artwork.
As per the application form available on GSIDC website, mosaic mesh is to be used to create all the mosaic at the workshop.
The tiles are broken into smaller pieces called ‘tesserae’ and juxtaposed to create the design on the mesh. Once the whole design is executed on the mesh, the pieces will be taken to the site for installation using tile adhesive.
Application forms will be available till June 21 and have to be submitted for scrutiny by June 28.
