The Congress on Thursday slammed Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai for speaking out in favour of including a chapter in school textbooks about India’s Emergency period.
Congress Spokesperson Jitendra Deshprabhu expressed disbelief at Sardesai’s speaking out against the Congress regime in the country as Sardesai had once been a part of the Congress himself.
“Our TCP Minister was an active Congressman himself, even being the General Secretary of the GPCC at one point,” Deshprabhu said. He said if the BJP-led government was so insistent about including a chapter on the Emergency of the 1970s, then they should also include a chapter on the Godhra communal riots of 2002, the Muzzafarnagar communal Riots of 2013, as well as the incident in Uttar Pradesh where children died in a hospital for lack of oxygen.
“The latest news making headlines about India is that India is the country most unsafe for women,” said Deshprabhu pointing out that this is a time of BJP rule, and that such a situation had never occurred during the time of the Emergency when the country had a Congress leader at the helm.
