Stating that there were plans to provide elaborate facilities and introduce training to anganwadi teachers, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday said the government was planning to introduce e-learning module in anganwadi schools.

He also stressed on need to introduce honorarium to anganwadi workers who were mainly responsible to publicize and create awareness about government schemes.

“We want to introduce e-learning module in anganwadis in order to provide best facilities to teachers and children who attend such schools,” Rane said.

The health minister who also looks after the women & child development department was speaking after inaugurating the “College of Physiotherapy & Training Centre” at the restored old Asilo Hospital in Mapusa.

Continuing, the health minister said the government has plans to form a cluster of 100 anganwadis to provide better facilities to children.

“Why should children from well-to-do families go to playschools and those from poor background attend anganwadis? We need to create a level playing field to bridge the gap,” he said.

“We have already got administrative approval to bring 100 anganwadis in a cluster. In such a scenario, anganwadis will be better than playschools and children of every family will then come to such anganwadis to learn,” he added.

Rane also acknowledged the need to bring changes in the syllabus and further said the government was working for the people of Goa and women in particular.

Stressing on the need for health and women & child departments to work in tandem, the minister said the government was planning to introduce several new schemes for the welfare of the women.

On the occasion, the health minister re-launched the “Swawlambhan” scheme, where all Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in State will get Rs 30,000 each, instead of Rs 5,000 which was paid earlier.

During the function, cheques for Rs 30,000 each were distributed to 100 SHGs on Wednesday.

The health minister said the renovated old Asilo hospital will act as physiotherapy college where 50 to 100 seats will be up for grabs.

“It’s difficult to get a historic building like this one. We need to maintain our heritage structures,” Rane said after throwing open the renovated old Asilo hospital.
