The e-auction of iron ore dumps across Goa will begin on January 22, 2025, with the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) issuing a notice inviting tenders (NIT). Dumps, including those on forest land and eco-sensitive areas, will be auctioned in the first phase.
The DMG stated that the dumps are offered on an “as is, where is” basis, and bidders must assess the quantity, quality, and recovery of iron ore at the site. Applications close on January 9, with technical bids opening on January 10. Qualified bidders will be announced on January 20.
Participants must be registered under the Goa (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Storage, and Transportation of Minerals) Rules, 2013, and hold a State Licence. Exporters can sell or export recovered ore, while end users may use it for captive consumption.
Tender documents cost Rs. 1,00,000 per dump, with a reserve price set at 22 per cent. Successful bidders must submit a handling plan within 180 days and obtain permissions for dumps in forests or eco-sensitive areas.
The DMG will not mediate disputes between bidders, landowners, or other parties.
Last month, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that around 30-40 dumps would be put up for e-auction in the first phase, with the government expecting revenue of Rs 500 crore.
