The Goa government will soon be rolling out registration of a lifelong 12-digit Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR ID) for all school-enrolled students in the State. APAAR ID is part of the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ programme aligning with the New Education Policy 2020.
This new initiative aims to streamline academic records, track student progress and support students’ educational journeys.
Speaking to The Goan, Director Education Shailesh Zingade said that One Nation, One Student ID is a part of New Education Policy 2020 and the State government has adopted the policy in toto. “We will be initiating this process through Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK),” he said.
“The unique ID will help the government and schools to streamline academic records of the students, track student progress and provide necessary help and guidance as and when required. The step will ensure proper documentation of student progress throughout their academic journey,” he said.
APAAR ID will be linked to Aadhaar and also DigiLocker.
As per Union Ministry for Education, with this ID, students will be able to digitally store and access their results, comprehensive assessment report cards, Olympiad achievements, sports awards, skill training records, and various other credentials.
Goa had last year launched VSK to analyse the data on students’ academic performance using advanced technologies like AI and machine. More than three lakh students and 14,000 teachers in 1,400-odd schools across Goa have registered under VSK.
The Kendra took shape after it was found that Goa students fared poorly in mathematics and science at the National Achievement Survey (NAS) as compared to their counterparts nationally.
NEP 2020 emphasises on careful tracking of students’ learning levels and to ensure that the students enrolled in the school regularly attend classes. The aim is also to ensure zero dropout rates.
The data analysis by the Vidya Samiksha Kendra is also expected to help bring back to school those students who are out of the mainstream schooling system.
