The State government is going to come out with a white paper on reasons, which have caused a decline in the number of tourists visiting the State, in a month’s time.
Many stakeholders have claimed that the ongoing tourism season is the worst for Goa in years, which has prompted the Tourism Department to undertake a study to find out if their claims are true.
A number of hoteliers have also claimed that their occupancy rates were very low because fewer tourists are visiting Goa this season compared to the earlier years.
Sanjiv Gadkar, tourism director, said, “They (hoteliers) are giving figures based on their occupancy. We have started a study to understand whether what they claiming is correct or not. Soon, we will come out with a white paper. We have already started the process to understand the reasons for downfall in the number of tourists.”
On when the government will come out with the white paper, Gadkar replied “in a month’s time”. The Tourism Department is in the process of taking feedback, he said.
