Ahead of the upcoming mining season, the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has made it mandatory for vehicles transporting major minerals, to be fitted with the Global Positioning System (GPS).
The DMG on Tuesday issued the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the transportation of major minerals within the State and from outside the State. Currently, the transportation of minerals is banned in view of the monsoon season.
As per the SOP, the department has directed all the vehicles involved in the transportation to get registered on Bhumija portal and that the GPS fitted should be integrated with the portal.
The department has made it compulsory for the vehicles to generate trip sheets which they have to carry along during the entire journey.
“Any vehicle transporting minerals without a trip sheet will be treated as illegal,” the department said.
The vehicles will have to cover the material with a tarpaulin while transporting on the routes approved by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).
The department has clarified that if there is any variation in the weight of mineral between the source weighbridge and the destination weighbridge, then the higher of the two will be considered as mineral actually transported.
The department has warned to take serious action against those vehicle operators who fail to follow the SOP.
