The elections to the managing committee of Khorlim (Mapusa) Comunidade have yielded a surprising result as the panel supported by former Mapusa Municipal Council chairpersons Ryan Braganza and Armindo Braganza triumphed over the group backed by the ruling Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA, Joshua De Souza.
In a closely contested race, Shirish Divkar emerged victorious as the new President of the Comunidade, defeating rival candidate Avdhut Swar.
Divkar's win marks a major setback for the outgoing panel, which was aligned with the ruling government.
Sudhir Kandolkar, a prominent figure in the Mapusa community, was elected as the Attorney after defeating Shivanand (Bappa) Dhavjekar.
Meanwhile, Glen Gonsalves was elected unopposed as the Treasurer, securing his position without a challenge.
The winning candidates managed to outshine the panel of the incumbent MLA.
