Peace was shattered at Benaulim past midnight when a group of persons attacked another group at the parking area of a restaurant at Benaulim last night.
The fight did not stop at there. When one of the injured was being taken to the hospital, they were attacked again near the Khareband bridge and their car was also damaged.
One person has been admitted to a city-based private hospital, while another injured has been discharged from the district hospital after receiving stitches on his ear.
The Colva police have apprehended one of the alleged accused person, Samuel Mascarenhas, a resident of Chandor, from the Mopa airport. He has since been arrested by the police.
Colva police station in-charge, PI Theron D’Costa told the media that the Colva Police registered FIR under section 323, 324, 427 r/w 34 IPC in connection with the incident.
He said that the police registered the offense based on a complaint of Gary Adrian Rodrigues, a resident of Orlim stating that around 01.30 hrs on Sunday at the parking area of Southern Deck Beach Restaurant, Benaulim and near Khareband Bridge, the accused persons Siddesh, a resident of Raia, Samuel Mascarenhas from Chandor, Akash Atvekar from Housing Board, Margao and Keshav, resident of Chandor with their common intention assaulted Adrel Da Costa of Mandopa, Navelim, Noiren Mitch Jaime Caldeira, of Navelim and Maebern Sonal Furtado, of Chinchinim with fist blows thereby causing them injuries.
The complaint further stated that while the accused were allegedly assaulting them, his friend Aloysuis Barretto, resident of Carmona tried to intervene, but was also assaulted.
The complaint further stated that when the injured Aloysuis Barretto was being shifted to the hospital, the accused assaulted the complainant and his friend namely Gordon Rodrigues, resident of Orlim near Khareband Bridge with an iron rod. The accused also damaged their car causing loss of Rs 50,000.
PI Theron informed that the victim Aloysuis Barretto is undergoing treatment at Victor Hospital, Margao.
