GSUDA out, HPCC opts for GSIDC

The Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) seems to be on its way out of the Sonsodo bio-remediation project with the High Powered Coordination Committee (HPCC) headed by Chief Minsiter Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday opting for the Department of Science of Technology to route the project at Sonsodo through Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.

In this connection, the formal end to GSUDA’s bid to take up the bio-remediation project is expected to come on Thursday, as the Margao Municipal Council is expected to pass a resolution stating that the civic body is no more interested in engaging GSUDA to execute the bio-remediation project.
The civic body may adopt a fresh resolution to engage the Department of Science and Technology to take up the project through GSIDC, a la the Saligao project. The civic body may also take a decision to hand over the site to the Department of Science and Technology to take up the project.
That the process for the phasing out of GSUDA from the bio-remediation project was set in motion at the HPCC meeting at the Secretariat was evident by the fact that MMC officials were holed up in the civic body till late evening to compile the minutes of Wednesday’s meeting.  While Town and Country Planning Minister and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai had promised to start the bio-remediation project at Sonsodo from April 1, Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar is believed to have issued directions to GSIDC to mobile the heavy machinery required for the Sonsodo project immediately.
Besides the CM, the meeting was attended by Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, MMC chairperson Babita Prabhudesai, Chief Officer Y B Tawde
and others. TGN
