The Goa Tourism Development Corporation GTDC office sought to address grievances of yellow-black taxis operating at Dabolim International Airport, at a special meeting in Panaji on Wednesday.

According to President of United Taximen Union, Sanjay Naik, a special meeting was convened at GTDC office and it was attended by all 4 Mormugao MLAs, Carlos Almeida, Milind Naik, Alina Saldanha and Mauvin Godinho.

“St Andre MLA Francis Silveira, GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral and GTDC Managing Director Nikhil Desai were also present at the meeting,” said Naik.

“During the meeting, a decision was taken that no taxi would be allotted special parking space at the Airport. Also, Counter 29 which was taken by GTDC for the ‘GoaMiles’ App registered taxis would be used as a pickup point, but not to conduct business,” he added.

Naik, however, complained that since the last two days, a few app-registered taxis were parked at the airport and the GoaMiles taxi operators were canvassing in the open and conducting business through the counter. “We have faith in the GTDC chairman and managing director who have promised us that no app-based taxi would be allowed to park and conduct business in the open and use the airport counter to promote business.”

“We will meet him again and apprise him of the situation. We have also called Alina Saldanha to have a look at how other taxis are operating at the airport.”

“We have also informed Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, who has also spoken to authorities concerned not to allow special parking to app-based taxis and to protect the interests of yellow-black taxis,” said Naik.
