Saligao MLA and Chairman of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Kedar Naik has stated that desilting of Savlem Lake will be undertaken by the Water Resources Department on June 5 to mark World Environment Day.
“The beautification of this lake will then be done by GTDC, similar to Mayem Lake, after taking all the stakeholders into confidence. A lot of migratory birds visit this lake every year, and if this lake is beautified, it can become a tourist spot in Bardez taluka,” said Naik.
He was speaking at Alto-Pilerne after launching the Rs 70 lakh project to hotmix the road near Maharudra Amrekar Devastan, in the presence of Pilerne-Marra Sarpanch Saijul Bandodkar, Dy Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar, panch member Sandeep Bandodkar, Village Development Committee Chairman Karan Govekar, Panch Ashvini Chodankar, and locals.
Naik informed that the foundation stone for the new Rs 10 crore Saligao panchayat building will be laid within the next 15 days, while work to illuminate the Maharudra Amrekar Devastan will commence next week.
“Work on the Sangolda Panchayat Ghar is progressing speedily and will be completed within the next few months, while work on the new Saligao power substation is nearing completion.”
Pilerne-Marra Dy Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar said the road near Amrekar Devastan is used by students and parents of Chubby Cheeks High School, and hence, there was a demand to hotmix this road before the monsoon.
“Hotmixing of this road was planned in the first week of May, but due to the unavailability of tar, the contractor could not begin the work. Hotmixing of most internal roads in Pilerne-Marra panchayat has been completed,” said Govekar.
