PANAJI
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) slammed the outgoing Goa University vice-chancellor Varun Sahani, blaming the latter for the steady degeneration of standards at the state's only varsity, which has led to the institution slipping in the national ranking.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji on Thursday NSUI Goa president Naushad Chowdhari said that the newly appointed vice-chancellor Harilal Menon should appoint a full-fledged registrar at the earliest.
"Goa University has slipped far down in its ranking right from the time Varun Sahani took over five years back. It was ranked 20 when Sahani joined and with him, at the helm, it has slipped down further to 96 in 2021," Choudhari said.
The NSUI official, who met the newly appointed vice-chancellor Harilal Menon, also urged the latter to appoint a full-time registrar to ensure that the functioning of the varsity is smooth in the near future.
"Goa University has not had a Registrar for one year after YV Reddy's exit. We have urged him to appoint a full-time registrar. The administration has collapsed, even the results have been delayed," Chowdhari also said.
