Guard caught with ganja at Colvale Jail to lose job

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said the GHRDC woman security guard allegedly caught with ganja at Colvale Central Jail would be suspended and subsequently terminated from service.

The guard, identified as Asha Chodankar, was taken into custody by Colvale Police after she was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle suspected ganja and charas into the jail.

Sawant said strict vigilance was being maintained at the prison and asserted that action would be taken against the staff member.

According to police, around 236 grams of a substance suspected to be ganja and about two grams of suspected charas were recovered from a steel bottle allegedly in Chodankar’s possession.

Three mobile phones and three ATM cards were also reportedly seized from her locker at the jail.

Police have launched a further investigation into the alleged smuggling attempt and are examining how the prohibited substances were brought into the high-security prison.
