Guirdolim gram sabha says no to masjid

MARGAO

The gram sabha of Guirdolim panchayat on Sunday vehemently objected to the masjid proposed in the village at the new township with members demanding that the local body write to the Town and Country Planning department to revoke the technical clearance granted to it.

The gram sabha chaired by deputy sarpanch Franky Rodrigues deliberated on the proposed masjid as members questioned the need for it in the village which hardly has any Muslim population.

They pointed out that Guirdolim cannot be a place for the community to build the masjid for the benefit of the minority community from the adjoining villages.

Members further pointed out that the neighbouring Chandor village panchayat had in the year 2014  written a letter to the Guirdolim panchayat not to issue license for the masjid in the village.

In this connection, the gram sabha members have told the panchayat to immediately dispatch a letter to the TCP department to revoke the technical clearance granted for the project.

The gram sabha members also told the panchayat to write to all other authorities, including the district collector, the water and electricity departments, about the sentiments of the villagers and not to grant any permission for the place of worship.

The gram sabha also discussed about the under pass and the double tracking projects at the meeting.  Members demanded that the panchayat write to the authorities concerned, including the railways to  submit the double tracking plan to the panchayat.
