In a move aimed at making the Ganesh idol immersion more comfortable and safe for devotees, the Guirim panchayat has launched a special ‘Visarjan Seva Point’ near the village water body.

The temporary covered facility, created with the support of real estate group Vianaar under their CSR initiative, will serve as a resting and assistance point for families coming to bid farewell to their Ganesh idols.

The structure has been designed to be dismantled and reassembled every year during the festive season, ensuring both sustainability and convenience.

Guirim Sarpanch Shubham Rao Dessai, who inaugurated the initiative, said the idea was born out of the need to provide better facilities for the community during the immersion.

“Every year, we see hundreds of families standing in the rain or struggling without shade while waiting for their turn at the water body. This initiative is for their comfort and safety during Ganesh visarjan. The panchayat, along with the residents of Guirim, is grateful to Vianaar for extending their support and helping us bring this idea to life,” Dessai said.

The covered point will allow devotees to wait and perform their rituals without being exposed to heavy rain “ a frequent challenge during the monsoon season in Goa when Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated.

A representative from Vianaar said the company was glad to step in with support for a project that directly benefits the village.

“Ganesh Chaturthi is a special time for Goans, and we are proud to contribute towards making the celebrations smoother and safer. We see this as a long-term association with the village,” the spokesperson noted.

The initiative has also received appreciation from villagers, many of whom described it as a “much-needed” facility.

“Earlier we had to carry umbrellas and manage in the open. Now at least there is some shelter and order. The panchayat has done well to think of this,” said Rama Naik, a local resident.

As Guirim prepares to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, the new initiative stands as a small but meaningful example of how local bodies and private groups can collaborate to bring comfort and dignity to traditional rituals.
