Officials of the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) descended at Sonsodo with the job of assessing the quantity of matured waste piled up inside the Sonsodo waste management shed before floating a tender for the remediation of the waste.

GWMC officials pointed out that the exercise of assessing the quantum of waste that has piled up inside the Sonsodo shed has been carried out to find out the exact quantity of the matured waste lying inside.

Before the work of handling and remediation of the piled up waste was handed over to the GWMC, the Margao Municipal Council had concluded that around 10,000 metric tons of matured waste is lying inside the Sonsodo waste management shed.

In fact, the MMC had sought  the administrative approval from the government to float a tender amounting to Rs two crore to remediate the piled up waste and free the Sonsodo shed from the waste.

However, after the High Court took serious cognizance of the failure of the Margao Municipality in adhering to the time-lines to bring about a turnaround at Sonsodo, the government had later decided to hand over the work of remediation of the piled up waste to the GWMC.
