The elections for the new panchayat body of the Harvalem village panchayat will be held on October 20, while counting of votes will take place the next day, October 21.
The term of the Sarpanch, Dy. Sarpanch, and other members of the Harvalem VP, ended on August 18 and accordingly, pending elections, the State government had appointed an Administrator to oversee the functioning of the local body.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Goa State Election Commissioner Daulat Hawaldar announced the poll schedule, thus bringing into force the model code of conduct in the village area.
The schedule for the election has been outlined, starting with the receipt of nominations from October 1 to October 9. Scrutiny of the nominations will take place on October 10, followed by the withdrawal of candidature, if any, on October 11.
Voting will be conducted via ballot. As many as 2,091 voters including 1,037 male and 1,054 female voters are eligible to exercise their right.
Three of the five wards are unreserved, while two”Ward IV and Ward V”would be reserved for women candidates.
Hawaldar said that candidates in the election are subject to an expenditure limit of Rs 40,000 per ward. He said that the General Observers and Expenditure Observers, along with flying squads, are appointed to monitor the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
