The health minister on Friday reassured the people of Mormugao taluka that the Chicalim Sub District Hospital (SDH) would not be privatised.
He was speaking at a function to felicitate Covid frontline workers of Cansaulim Primary Health Centre (PHC) at T B Cunha Sports Complex at Cansaulim.
The health minister told contract nurses and staff of Cansaulim PHC that the government would work to renew their contract within the next three months and assured Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha that LMO tanks would be set up to ensure sufficient supply of oxygen as well as the extension of the STEMI programme at the Cansaulim PHC.
Concerns had been raised over plans to privatise the Chicalim SDH but Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho had been vehemently opposed to any such move.
“As far as the Chicalim hospital is concerned, we will not allow it (privatisation) to happen as stated by Godinho and the government only will run the hospital facility,” said the health minister.
He praised the doctors, staff, paramedics, health workers and frontline workers for their selfless work during the pandemic.
“We wanted to express the government’s gratitude to them by felicitating these Covid warriors. These were very difficult times but our Covid frontline workers tirelessly and selflessly to save lives of people and they deserve recognition for their excellent work,” he said.
“During my interaction, I assured all contract nurses and staff that we will work to renew their contract within the next three months. I have also assured Saldanha that in the periphery areas, we will put up LMO tanks to ensure a sufficient supply of oxygen and the extension of the STEMI programme at the Cansaulim PHC,” stated the minister.
Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said the medical staff forgot about themselves and reached out to people who needed assistance.
