The Marcaim Health Center will serve notices to the houses in Priol village for failing to take measures towards prevention of dengue.
So far, about 14 cases have tested positive for dengue in this area.
Priol, covered with thick plantation of areca nuts, went into panic recently as more than 40 persons were admitted into the hospitals with symptoms of dengue.
No sooner did this happen, the health department had undertaken a campaign asking people to take measures so that breeding of mosquitoes does not take place.
“We had visited the place and told the people to clear the fallen leaves from their plantations. If they fill with water, it becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Despite being informed of this, they have not cleared the area. Hence, we have decided to serve notices to these people,” one of the health officials said on the condition of anonymity.
The people from the area were also told to get rid of discarded bottles, besides the fallen areca tree leaves.
Veling-Priol-Kuncolim sarpanch Mangaldas Gaude told The Goan that they have started awareness  campaigns about dengue and health teams are helping them disseminate information regarding the same.
“The situation is under control at Gaavwada. In this place many cases were witnessed. Now all of us panch members and health officers have started visiting the areas,” Gaude informed, adding, “We are thankful to health teams from Panaji, Ponda and Marcaim who helped us to clear the area of mosquito breeding grounds,” he said.
