Heavy rains lashed Sattari taluka on Saturday evening and high voltage damaged household appliances in five houses at Ghoteli-Keri in Sattari.
According to reports, the incident took place at about 3 pm, when heavy rains disrupted normal life in the taluka.
There was a surge in voltage in Ghoteli-Keri, damaging household appliances like TVs, ACs, refrigerators and lights at five houses in the area.
The affected people have blamed the electricity department for failing to maintain the electricity poles in the area.
They claimed that the wires had been sparking constantly in the last two and despite reporting the matter to the electricity department, there had been no action in the matter.
A resident, Pramod Gawas, said voltage had been fluctuating since Saturday morning.
“I contacted the electricity department several times, but they did nothing about it and now, we have been hit by losses as our appliances have been damaged.”
Later, local panch Laxman Gawas inspected the affected houses and took stock of the situation. He has also blamed the negligence of the electricity department and demanded compensation for the affected residents.
“I will contact the contact the local MLA and health minister in this regard and demand action against the electricity officials who failed to address concerns of the locals,” he said.
