Hill cutting stopped at Khola

CANACONAr rLed by Canacona Deputy Collector Kedar Naik, the administrative officers from Canacona swung into action and after rushing to the spot ordered immediate stoppage of the ongoing work and seized the machinery used for the controversial hill-cutting works. rThe entire operation was over as the administrative team reached back to headquarters only past 7 pm, informed sources. rBesides, a police team led by Cuncolim PSI Velip, other officers who visited the site are Canacona Mamlatdar Ramesh Gaonkar and Joint Mamlatdar Dattaraj Gauns Dessai, in the presence of Khola Sarpanch Purna Nayak and Secretary Rajiv Naik Gaonkar. rAccording to sources, a concerned resident of Khola initially alerted Team Goenkar about the ongoing controversial hill cutting works in close proximity to the beach at Cabo-De-Rama. rSources said after receiving a complaint from the Khola resident, the Team Goenkar led by its president Jack Fernandes, general secretary Vikas Bhagat and Sandesh Telekar reportedly got confirmed the mass developments that indeed massive hill cutting had been going on in Khola since last 10 days. rFacts were also verified by visiting the spot and accordingly information was passed on to Deputy Collector/SDM Canacona, Deputy Collector Flying Squad South-Goa, Khola Panchayat secretary calling for necessary legal action. rThe team immediately swung into action only to notice massive hill-cutting works going on in gross violation of CRZ rules in close proximity of village shore. rMeanwhile, Team Goemkar president Jack Fernandes said: “We appreciate the prompt action taken by Deputy Collector Kedar Naik and his team. Team Goemkar has now written to the chief minister mentioning the details of grave destruction of nature. We will approach the TCP officials on Friday for further action into the matter. Let’s us all work together to preserve our beautiful Canacona.”
