Investigations into the hit and run accident that resulted in the death of a two-wheeler at the Cuncolim Industrial estate on the night of December 15 has revealed that the accused car driver was the staff driver of Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao.
While the accused driver, Devidas Mayenkar has been arrested by the Cuncolim police, the Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao took to the social media to tweet that he joins in the grief with the family of the deceased and for the loss and extend his support to the family.
The accused driver was arrested by the Cuncolim police after he surrendered before the police on Sunday evening. He has since been released on bail.
Investigations by the Cuncolim police into the hit and run case had revealed that the vehicle involved in the hit and run case that resulted the death of a two-wheeler Sunny Shirodkar on December 15 night at 11 pm revealed that the car was registered in the name of Deby Alemao.
The police had registered a case against the unknown driver of the unknown car for driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Cuncolim towards IDC Cuncolim. The police had stated that the vehicle while overtaking a trailer had dashed an on coming Hero Honda Splendor M/Cycle No GA-02-P-3862 due to which rider Sunny Pramod Shirodkar, 39 yrs., resident of Cuncolim fell on the road. He succumbed to his injuries while he was shifted to the hospital. The accused driver fled from the spot.
Meanwhile, in his tweet, Yuri Alemao said that a very unfortunate accident has taken place involving his staff driver resulting in the death of a Cuncolim resident Sunny Shirodkar.”I join in grief with the family for the loss and extend all my support to the family”, Yuri stated in his tweet.
