Activists have have requested the electricity department to collect crores of rupees in untapped revenue through banners and hoardings fixed on government property.
Activists Mahesh Mhambre and Ravi Harmalkar have also highlighted the nuisance caused due to illegal hoardings and banners affixed on electricity poles across the State.
They have written to the chief electrical engineer, director of vigilance, magistrates of both districts, chief secretary, director general of police, superintendent of police and the national highways authority of India.
These activists have threatened to approach the high court with the public interest litigation if authorities fail to act in this regard.
The complainants brought it to the notice of the administration about the nuisance, defacement of public property and endangerment to life and property caused by illegal hoardings erected by political parties on electricity poles along national, state, district and village roads.
“There are thousands of electricity poles occupied with illegal and unauthorised hoardings of all political parties,” says the complaint.
The chief electrical engineer in a circular dated October 11 had directed divisional and sub divisional engineers to ensure that unauthorised hoarding and banners placed on power department poles and on any other department assets in all parts of the State to be removed. However, the order has not been implemented as yet.
The complainant has brought it to the notice of administration that all parties have fixed banners and hoardings on electricity polls.
