Joint Mamlatdar of Tiswadi and Revenue Recovery Officer Isha Sawant on Thursday directed Goa BJP vice president Anil Hoble pay within 24 hours the fine of Rs 20 lakh imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) as cost of environmental degradation and CRZ violation along with Rs 5,000 as litigation costs.
Hoble, who was served the notice today through the talathi, has been directed to deposit the amount in the name of Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority.
On May 29, 2015, the NGT had ordered the demolition of structures owned by Hoble which were in violation of environmental laws and had directed him to pay a fine of 20 lakh for destroying mangroves and for illegal land filling. The action by the Joint Mamlatdar followed directions by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) to initiate proceedings to recover the fine.
In his letter dated November 15, GCZMA Member Secretary Srinet Kothwale had drawn the attention of the Tiswadi Mamlatdar that a cheque dated October 27, 2016 for Rs 10 lakh issued by Hoble was returned by the bank as the account name and payees name differed.
Last month, the Supreme Court had dismissed Hoble’s appeal and had upheld the NGT order to demolish his structures including the Hoble River Lounge Bar and Restaurant.
