Many families in Chimbel have been found Covid positive and told to remain in home isolation but have had no help from local authorities or local politicians.
Instead, they have had to rely on help from Good Samaritans or social workers in the village to take care of their needs for groceries, vegetables, medicines.
In some instances, with no help available, many Covid positive patients have themselves to venture out for buying groceries, vegetables and other essentials.
Speaking to The Goan, social activist Ana Gracias informed that she has come across many families where all members are infected with Covid, but they got help from no one.
“I get calls from many persons asking for help either in shifting the Covid patients to a hospital or to buy groceries, medicines,” said Gracias, while lambasting some local politicians for falsely claiming of helping families in home isolation.
A local, Pravin Chopdecar, who has since recovered from Covid said there was absolutely no monitoring of his health, not even from health authorities, forget about help in getting groceries or medicines.
“In fact, I had to seek treatment at a private hospital after my health deteriorated and the Chimbel PHC doctor did not answer my calls,” Chopdecar added.
His neighbour and friend, who did not wish to be named, shared a similar experience as he said when he along with his family members got Covid, help was hard to come by.
“It was Pravin Chopdecar who helped to take my mother, in his vehicle, to a private practitioner in Goa Velha for treatment,” he added.
“Tomorrow, we are completing our period of home isolation but till date, no help has come from the panchayat or health authorities,” he stated.
“Only on the first day, I got a call from the Chimbel PHC. After that, I have been monitoring my health and that of my family members,” he added further.
Another Covid positive person from Indira Nagar, whose entire family was infected and told to remain in home isolation, informed that he had no option but to venture out and buy groceries, vegetables, milk.
“Even though I was aware of the risk of spreading the infection, I had no option as there was absolutely no help available. However, I took extra precaution like wearing N95 mask, gloves and applying hand sanitiser while venturing out,” he added.
