Raising the sewage water issue, a local resident, Antonio Correia stated that a resort released its sewage water on the main road at Nagoa during the monsoon, creating nuisance to the residents around.
“During the monsoon, with the rain water the hotel releases its sewage water on road, which besides accumulating on road also makes its way into the fields in the area. The place becomes a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes,” Correia said.
Correia said the health of the residents was at stake particularly during the rains and urged the panchayat to take steps to rectify the problem at the earliest.
One of the panch members said in the past complaints were made to the health department against the hotel but no action was taken on the issue. Considering the gravity of the situation, the Arpora-Nagao gram sabha resolved to construct a new drain across the main road, opposite the resort, to eliminate nuisance of water accumulation. Acting Sarpanch, Augustine D’Souza said most of the drains in the area were choked and the only way to resolve the issue was to build a new drain.
However, considering limited time due to impending panchayat elections there was doubt whether the work could be tendered within short time that was available. The meet also resolved to construct a retaining wall from the residence of Rajan Naik’s to the residence of Deepak Diukar in Arpora.
The panchayat placed the budget for 2017-18 with total receipts of Rs 2.89 crore and expenditure of Rs 2.77 crore.
