A series of burglaries and attempted break-ins reported in Curchorem has prompted residents to demand increased night patrolling and stronger police surveillance in the town.
According to reports, the burglaries were reported on Friday, affecting residential houses, a commercial establishment and even a place of worship.
The incidents were reported from Ward 15 of Curchorem, where burglars allegedly targeted multiple places in a single night. A shop was reportedly broken into, while thefts were reported in a couple of houses. An attempted break-in was also reported at the Sateri Temple in the Curchorem Bazaar area.
CCTV footage from the affected areas is said to have captured the movements of the suspected burglars and is expected to assist investigators in identifying those involved. Footage from one of the targeted residential houses reportedly shows the burglars gaining entry by breaking open the kitchen door before making away with copper household utensils.
The suspects were last seen on CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the Curchorem railway station before disappearing into the darkness, raising suspicion that they may have fled the area soon after committing the offences.
The incidents have sparked concern among residents, who say the recurring thefts have created a sense of insecurity in the locality.
Locals have urged the police to intensify night patrolling, strengthen surveillance in vulnerable areas and ensure a swift and thorough investigation to prevent such incidents from recurring.
Meanwhile, a group of local residents under the banner of the Goa Forward Party on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Police Inspector of the Curchorem Police Station, demanding increased police patrolling in the area and the intensification of the investigation to ensure the culprits are identified and brought to justice.
The matter is currently under investigation, with the Curchorem Police examining CCTV footage and other available evidence as part of their probe.
