MARGAO: The Goa police was literally on its toes on the eve of the Shiv Jayanti procession scheduled on Wednesday, with senior police officials holding mohalla peace meetings with members of the public from the communally-sensitive Gogol and Rumdamol housing boards.
The Goa police has also mobilized a huge police force, of around five battalions for security duties on Wednesday along the entire procession route from Housing board Gogol to Lohia Maidan, Margao.
District police chief Arvind Gawas along with DySP Serafino Dias, PIs Kapil Nayak and Gurudas Kadam descended at the communally-sensitive housing boards of Gogol and Rumdamol and inspected the entire route on Tuesday.
The Maina Curtorim police has set up a picket at the Rumdamol housing board and has intensified patrolling in the sensitive areas on the eve of the rally.
While SP Arvind Gawas held a meeting with members of the peace committees in place at the housing boards, Margao Deputy Collector Vishal Kundaikar held a separate meeting with the organizers of the Shiv Jayanti procession to explain to them the dos and don’ts on the day of the procession.
Maina Curtorim police station in charge PI Gurudas Kadam informed that the Goa police has drawn a security scheme for implementation on the day of the Shiv Jayanti procession to ensure the event occurs without any incident.
“The police has set up a picket at Rumdamol housing board on Tuesday as a precautionary measure,” he said, adding that the police has mobilized a huge police force to maintain law and order on Wednesday.
