In a major crack down by the department of Legal Metrology, Inspectors attached to the Margao legal metrology office booked two packaged commodities cases and seized around 80 packages
of umbrellas, 98 packages of shoes, including 48 packages of VKC shoes, 45 packages of China lights and 34 packages of hardware for not bearing the mandatory declaration.
Legal metrology inspector, Demu N Mapari, who booked the cases, said with respect to the VKC shoe packages, the MRP declaration was smuggled by the manufacturer worth Rs 30,000.
Similar raids were conducted by the legal metrology teams at Mormugao and Bicholim talukas.
The drive was carried out under the guidance of Kiran B Kossambe, Controller, Legal Metrology and under the supervision of Arun N Panchwadkar, Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone-I, Prasad Shirodkar, Assistant control, Legal metrology (Packaged Commodities) and Ranjan M Borakar, Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, North zone and assisted by Devanand Phadte, Gurunath Naik, Ramdas Gawade, Sudhir Gaonkar, Pascoal Vaz and Melvin Furtado.
Legal metrology officials said the drive will continue till 100 per cent success is achieved by the department.
